12 Moons
I keep all twelve of these images on the wall of my studio. I ask first-time visitors to have a look, see if they can pick out the real Moon. Almost always they make their guess. Almost always they are wrong.
I’m guessing a hundred years ago, two hundred years ago, the correct Moon would have been obvious. The Moon mattered back then. Not so much anymore.
I’m guessing that I could create fake tree images like I created fake moon images. I could put maple leaves on oak trees, sequoia cones on pines.
I’m guessing that I could take a picture of people’s lovers, their spouses. I bet I could change the eye color a little, the shape of the nose a tad.
I’m guessing almost no one would notice.
